Southampton Lays Out €30m for Aaron Ramsdale
Transfer Fee Makes Ramsdale Saints' Record Signing
Aaron Ramsdale has become Southampton's costliest signing ever after the Saints shelled out €30m to land the goalkeeper from Sheffield United. The fee eclipses the €25m Southampton paid Liverpool for Danny Ings in 2019.
Ramsdale's Stock Rises After England Debut
The 23-year-old has been capped once by England and was part of Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2020. Ramsdale's impressive performances for Sheffield United caught the eye of Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.
Ramsdale will compete with Alex McCarthy for the number one spot at Southampton. McCarthy has been the club's first-choice goalkeeper for the past two seasons but has been linked with a move away from St Mary's this summer.
Southampton are hoping that Ramsdale can help them improve on their 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season. The Saints have also signed Romain Perraud, Theo Walcott, and Adam Armstrong this summer.
