“The new airport forms part of our Vision 2050, which seeks to make [Ethiopia] a leading aviation hub in Africa and beyond,” said Tewolde GebreMariam, the airlines’ Group CEO.
Located on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, the four-runway airport will boast a vast international terminal, a cargo terminal, and a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, it added.
The airport is expected to accommodate up to 100 million passengers per year, making it the largest airport in Africa.
The airport project is a critical element of Ethiopia's ambitious plans to transform itself into a regional aviation hub.
