Ambitious Expansion to Position Ethiopia as Leading Global Hub

First Phase to Be Completed in 2029

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest carrier in Africa, has announced ambitious plans to construct Africa's largest airport. The development is part of a long-term strategy to position Ethiopia as a leading global aviation hub.

The new airport will be located near the capital city of Addis Ababa, with the first phase scheduled to be completed in five years. The agreement for the design of the four-runway airport was recently signed, and the project is expected to cost an estimated $6 billion.

The first phase of the airport, scheduled for completion in 2029, will include a new passenger terminal, cargo terminal, and other supporting infrastructure. The airport is expected to have a capacity of 100 million passengers per year upon completion.

The expansion is a major undertaking for Ethiopian Airlines and is seen as a key driver of economic growth for Ethiopia. The new airport is expected to create jobs and boost tourism, making Ethiopia a more attractive destination for both business and leisure travelers.
